Press releases are a fantastic promotional tool. Just about anything can be announced in a press release. When you have something you need to tell the world, start by writing a powerful, professional press release. Here are some tips for writing a perfect press release:
There's No "I" in Press Release
Always refer to yourself in the third person. Never say "we" when referring to your organization. When you write your press release, write it as if you're writing a news article about someone else.
Stick to the Facts
State the facts only without giving your opinion. There are ways to get a positive message across while still sounding objective. For example, instead of saying "this company is going to make a lot of money" say instead, "the CEO foresees increased revenue growth in the company's future".
Don't Use Exclamation Points!!
Exclamation points imply hype. Stay away from them because they hurt the credibility of your press release. You never see exclamation points in a news article so they don't belong in a press release either.
Use Your Ad Sense
Don't write your press release like an advertisement. Imagine you're a reporter writing a news story. If it sounds like an ad, it's not a press release.
Strength in Length
Your press release should be at least 300 words in length. Give readers plenty of information to work with.
Proof Read, Proof Read, And Proof Read Again
The free press release services usually aren't going to check your grammar and spelling. It's up to you to make sure your press release is free of grammatical, spelling and typographical errors.
